Garden design… done differently

Specialising in wildlife habitat and local ecology, I offer consultation, design, and ongoing support for people who want more than a conventional garden.

I don’t design a finished product — I guide a living process. By working with natural cycles, change, and regeneration, rather than resisting them, your garden becomes more resilient, more connected to place, and more rewarding over time.

How I work…

All of my consultations and designs follow a consistent framework grounded in ecological knowledge, horticultural expertise and artistic creativity. By integrating these three disciplines, I help you create a truly holistic garden — one you’ll love spending time in.

Unlike most designers, I place local ecology and wildlife at the centre of the design process, not as an afterthought. Working with the natural flow of resources and species in your area is the most effective way to create a garden that is unique, resilient, and deeply rewarding. The result is a living landscape that invites connection — with nature, with place, and with the health benefits that come from spending time in a biodiverse environment.

My approach is unconventional, but if you believe it’s time to rethink the way we design urban gardens, I might just be the garden guru you’re looking for!

  • About 1 hour. A great way to find out what I offer, without committing to more up front. It’s also the perfect option if you just need a bit of advice. I provide verbal guidance, nothing on paper - but I may take notes to help with any future progress.

  • A site visit of between 1 and 2 hours to discuss your needs. I take notes and images (if you allow). Within an agreed time, I provide a report, including an overview of your local living systems and how they relate to your garden. I include recommendations such as suitable plants, plant care specific to your situation, materials and features to fit with your desired garden style and goals.

  • A simple plan may require one or two more visits, after which I provide a drawn plan of the layout, with options if applicable, and suggested project stages (if requested). The ‘simple plan’ is not measured to scale but includes concept sketches and alternatives ideas where relevant. Price varies with area size and complexity.

I recommend starting with a scoping visit or a ‘consultation & report’. Insight gained from these allow me to quote cheaper for the remaining plan development.

  • I measure the site to draw a plan to scale. This service is good for more complex projects or where you intend to use a construction service. The quoted price can have inclusions that you request, such as overseeing construction or assisting with planting. Price varies according to area size, complexity or specialised focus, such as food gardens and fire or flood risk management.

Again, I recommend starting with a scoping visit or a ‘consultation & report’. Insight gained from these allow me to quote cheaper for the remaining plan development.

If you have any questions about me, my methods, or how I can help you with your garden, please jot a few details on the contact form and I will respond as soon as I can.
